Blog Post: Sometimes Life Doesn't Afford 4-8 hours of Workshop Time

posted Saturday, January 24, 2009 11:08 AM

This week I've had several conversations with individuals who have been laid off or are expecting to be laid off in the coming weeks.  One consistent theme of these conversations as I recommended the workshops of other consultants and job coaches?  The dates and times of set workshops weren't working for them ---- their calendars are too complicated and they already have commitments on the dates of set workshops ---- and they don't want to wait two months to get the insights of these experts.

(1) If you CAN attend a workshop or networking group focused on job search, discovering YOUR best path, etc (and it's offered by a knowledgable, qualified individual) -- I think there is GREAT value there.  In addition to the facilitator's knowledge it affords the opportunity to get tips and tricks from others and possibly job leads (not a fit for them doesn't mean it's not a fit for you!)

(2) It's important to invest time in your job search and career transition.  Step back -- take time to determine what truly works for you and what does not. Now is not the time to skip strategy! You do not want to be back to looking for a job in another 6 months because you took a job that truly wasn't a fit.

(3) We hear you and want to help.  The consultants I work with have put together a Transition Package involving assessments, interviews and 1:1 consultation and we'll work around your calendar to the very best of our abilities.

Transition Package:  For the professional in transition or considering a career transition.

Lay-of-the-Land Interview:  During our initial session together we’ll complete a “lay-of-the-land” interview.  Through a conversational interview process we will  discover your career goals, career self-perception, and perception of success.

Career Values / Satisfiers:
Kerwin Values Survey (KVS) ™.  Most values assessment focus primarily on what is most important to someone.  The KVS addresses not only what an individual must have in his or her work -- but also what he or she most wants to avoid!  This distinction helps individuals more fully evaluate their work and career alternatives, and make better and more informed decisions as a result.  Your Insightful Endeavors Consultant will lay the ground work for this exercise and debrief it with you after you’ve had some time to sort through and think through the questions it will pose.

Thinking/Personality Styles:  Learn more about yourself and your thinking/behavioral attributes by completing these two (2) instruments:  Myers Briggs Type Indicator - MBTI ™ and Emergenetics® Profile  We will use the information collected from these two instruments to hone in on what satisfies you and where you get your energy from.  After completing these instruments your Insightful Endeavors International Consultant will debrief the tools and work through questions around how these results tie back to the Values Inventory.

Emotional Intelligence  You have the IQ – what’s the status of your EQ?  Using the Bar-On Emotional Quotient Inventory (EQi) tool, we will sort through 15 aspects of Emotional Intelligence within the areas of Intrapersonal Skills, Interpersonal Skills, Stress Management, Adaptability and General Mood.

These tools, along with personal consultation with the Insightful Endeavors International team provide an in-depth look at you as well as your thinking/ personality preferences, strengths and areas for development.  Through these sessions we will together uncover blind spots in your career search and open doors to new possibilities.

This is a fun, interactive, creative and approach through which you will ensure you are considering all of your best career and job-search options.

We understand that workshops don't always work into your calendar.....we've heard you and have designed this package specifically for individuals currently in transition or who are planning to be in transition over the next year.

We look forward to helping you find THE best pathwest for your future.

May all your Endeavors be Insightful,
