Blog Post: Taking the Fear Out of Firing. Employment Law Seminar Series and Free HRCI Credit
posted Tuesday, February 17, 2009 1:11 PM
In a time when most companies are facing a downturn of profits and a decline in work/output, many companies have no choice but to terminate employees as part of an overall strategy to weather the storm. How do you handle this overwhelming task? First, terminations should be strategic. Employees to be terminated should be selected with care and in harmony with the company's overall philosophy and goals. Second, owners and operators must be prepared to address the legal ramifications of delivering this painful news and must be knowledgeable of the federal and state laws impacting a company's decision to fire an employee or group of employees. If you have questions about terminations, consider attending the Employment Law Seminar on February 26th, from 8:30-10:00 a.m. This seminar is designed to assist employers to: a) ensure that workforce planning and employment activities are compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations; and, b) develop and implement the organization exit process for both voluntary and involuntary terminations, including planning for reductions in force (RIFs). The seminar is FREE and has been approved by HRCI for credit. Please see our website for more information: http://www.irelandstapleton.com/news Hope to see you there!
