Blog Post: Following-up After the Job Fair

First off - thanks to everyone who came to the Jobing.com Career Expo yesterday.  It was a great event and we enjoyed meeting so many of you that stopped by the Jobing.com booth.  It is great to get your feedback about the event and talk to you about your job search. 

We were lucky to be able to hold a drawing for three separate Jobing Career Services packages in our booth yesterday.  Congratulations to the winners of our drawings -  Leslie, Lori, and Tricia!

A few tips for following up after the event: 

Review - Look over any notes you took at the job fair and review information you collected. Pay special attention to preferred methods of follow-up. We recommend doing this as soon as you can after the event so you can move forward with your next steps.

Contact - If interested in applying to an employer, or if you have any additional questions about a company or a position, now is the time to contact them. Be sure to reintroduce yourself, referencing your conversation, and thank the hiring professional for their time at the event. This can be done through a cover letter, email or phone call.

Follow-up Online - You have had some great conversations with local employers about their open positions.  Some employers may have requested that you apply online.  The online application is an important tool that employers use to track interested candidates.   Some organizations actually require all applicants to participate in this step of the process.  With thousands of Job Seekers at the event, it is important for recruiters to manage resumes effectively. Applying online eliminates any chance of a misplaced resume, and increases your opportunity to make a final connection with the employer.   Online applications have become a common part of the hiring process and using the valuable information you have learned from meeting face-to-face with employers in this process can really help you stand out among your competition.
