Blog Post: Job Interview: Questions to Ask the Interviewer

posted Monday, March 26, 2007 4:11 PM

You have spent hours crafting your resume, searching for job listings, and preparing answers to tough interview questions.   Little did you realize you were going to be caught off guard by one simple inquiry, What questions do you have for us today?   It is in this moment that an applicant reveals what they deem to be important, as opposed to just answering what the hiring manager thinks is important.     Use this opportunity to:
  • Show you have done your homework and that you are interested in the position and the   company
  • Make the   interview a conversation and give you an active role in the interview
  • Showcase your knowledge and divulge more about yourself and how your would be a good fit for the position
  • Guide the interview towards questions you have regarding the position and company

Remember a good question like, How do you see me benefiting the company can work in your favor.  But a bad question like, How many vacation days does the company offer can work against you!   For more information about Job Interviewing Dos and Donts please visit The Maslin Group at http://www.hr.maslingroup.com/html/resume_home.html .   Happy Hunting!

Many interviewers will be able to detect a question that is asked just for the sake of asking. Ask questions about a topic that you are passionate about.

Do you want to move up the company ladder? Ask about what you would need to do to get promoted. Listen to the answer and take notes. If you are interviewing with your boss, ask him/her how you will know when you are successful.

If you have done homework, do not ask a question just to demonstrate your knowledge. Seek to get an answer that you truly desire.
