Blog Post: Volunteer Medical Clerical Internships

The Community College of Denver is looking for Medical Offices, Private Practices (Medical, Dental, Vision and Veterinary) and Hospitals, in Denver, who are willing to train and need the services of free student interns to assist with receptionist / clerical duties. Program information is as follows: Community College of Denver Essential Skills Program The Workplace Learning Project at the Community College of Denver is a well-organized, cooperative program that provides college credit and job readiness training to participants. We target people who are unemployed or underemployed due to a lack of vocational training and/or work experience. For many of the students, past work experience has been in minimum wage jobs with little or no opportunity for advancement. The coursework, in tandem with the internship experience, is designed to provide students with essential skills necessary for them to successfully maintain employment in positions with opportunities for long-term growth. The Medical Clerical Program is a 15 week program combined with classroom training, and internship, followed by placement and one year follow-up. The 17 credit hours certificate provides training in basic Medical Clerical, with a course schedule as follows: MOT 110 Medical Office Administration 4 Credits HPR 178 Medical Terminology 2 Credits MOT 181 Administrative Internship 2 Credits BTE 100 Computer Keyboarding 1 Credit & BTE 102 Computer Application 2 COM 100 Communications for the Workplace 1 Credit REA 140 Reading, Writing & Speak for the Workplace 3 credits In addition to the aforementioned classes we provide the following: · Background checks are process for all students · Worker’s Compensation Insurance while in internship · HIPAA training · CPR and First Aid training · We verify their immunizations are current · TB test are performed at Auraria Campus Our partnership with employers is critical to the success of the Essential Skills Program. The partnership is more than finding jobs for students. It involves ensuring the success of every student, continued program improvements and sustained positive impact on the Denver community.
