Blog Post: Building Bridges - A Brain Injury Employment Conference

posted Friday, April 27, 2007 6:15 PM

What would the workforce look like if everyone living with a brain injury who wanted to work knew where to go for employment support and got superior help from easily identified supports, programs and resources?

It would mean that people with brain injuries would be working in successful careers and enjoying increasingly integrated lives in their communities.

The Keynote Speaker for the conference is George "Brick" Johnstone, PhD.

Dr. Johnstone is a Professor and Chair of the MU Department of Health Psychology. He has worked extensively as a clinician with DVR clients with TBI, as well as completed collaborative employment outcomes research with the Missouri DVR as part of a NIDRR funded TBI Model System Center. He studied international disability issues in Ireland in 2004 as a Fulbright Scholar, and has been recognized nationally as a Fellow in the National Academy of Neuropsychology and the APA Rehabilitation Psychology Division. Professor Johnstone will present a keynote address for all attendees as well as participate in our professional track.

Start building bridges to supports, resources and opportunities at the first ever Brain Injury Employment Conference 2007, a dynamic day of learning, sharing, collaboration, innovation and networking.

Join this premier, multi-faceted, hands-on conference that will bring internationally recognized visionary

George "Brick" Johnstone, PhD, and many other brain injury specialists to Denver to create bridges to successful employment for attendees.

Topics Include:

  • Working with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation
  • Working with the Veterans Administration and Department of Defense
  • Utilizing neuropsychological evaluation and assessments
  • Creating success between programs and survivors
  • Successful interviewing
  • Combining Social Security and work
