Current Colorado Job Openings at St. Thomas More HospitalCañon City is the seat of Fremont County and the gateway to the Royal Gorge Bridge and Upper Arkansas River corridor. Approximately 27,000 people live in the metro area, with much of our industry arising from numerous state prisons located near the city and the United States Penitentiary, located in nearby Florence. Local businesses, tourism, and the Holnam Cement plant provide additional industry.
The total population of Fremont County is more than 43,000 people. In addition to Cañon City and Florence, smaller communities thrive along the Arkansas River corridor, including Penrose, Howard and Williamsburg. The western portion of the county winds into the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and outdoor activities, including: white water rafting, hiking and fly-fishing, abound.
There is a strong representation of religious denominations, three school districts and local shopping available in Fremont County.
