Betty Marler Youth Services Center Group Living Counselor Purpose of Position: The Group Living Counselor works as a member of a unit team implementing the Betty Marler Youth Services Center social learning curriculum. Rite of Passage provides a comprehensive, gender-specific secure residential treatment program tailored to the needs and potential of the young women selected for this program. We provide a variety of rich programmatic services that allow young women an opportunity to make positive changes. Reporting Relationships: 1. Reports to: Therapeutic Manager 2. Interacts with: Students Maintenance Personnel Parents Academic/Vocational Instructors Client Managers/Parole Officers Emergency Medical Technicians Schedule: Hours vary Essential Functions: 1. All duties listed in the Direct Care Staff Essential Functions. 2. Complete daily assignments as specified by Therapeutic Manager. 3. Responsible for preparing incident reports. 4. Responsible for planning, organizing and supervising student's participation in athletic/recreational activities, games, and leisure activities. 5. Responsible for monitoring scheduled educational, entertainment and religious events. 6. Provide guidance and resources to staff and students. 7. Required to remain overnight at a minimum of one night per shift/week and two nights every sixth week. 8. Encouraged to participate in 70% of the daily physical activities required of the students. 9. Provide individual counseling on an as needed basis to female students, to assist them with completing established goals and to develop social skills. 10. Oversee cottage groups of 8-10 students, ensuring all health, safety and welfare needs. 11. Responsible for supervising daily living routines that occur on shift, including wake-up, hygiene, meals, chores, physical elements, bedtime, etc. 12. Responsible for co-facilitating Leadership Circles and other group activities. 13. Responsible for maintaining program logs and completing all shift paperwork as assigned by the Therapeutic Manager. 14. Responsible for crisis intervention. Other Duties: 1. Community service interaction and supervision. 2. Student transportation. 3. Educational aide. 4. Coaching specific sports. 5. Assist other staff teams as requested by administration. 6. All other duties as assigned by the Program Director/Therapeutic Manager Environment: Secure residential treatment center. Position Specific Qualifications: In addition to entry level and universal requirements: 1. Passing scores on all applicable training exams. 2. Must be a BMYSC eligible driver with good driving record 3. Pass criminal background check. 4. Pass TB screen, drug screening and physical examination. 5. Be 21 years of age, 6. 1 year of experience or 60 hours college credits (copy of college transcripts required) 7. 3 references Important Notes
