Summary of Duties: This position serves as chief legal representative of the Village and advises the Mayor, City Council, the City Manager, and all Village departments in a manner that contributes to the achievement of organizational outcomes. The City Attorney attends all City Council study sessions and meetings; represents the City in all legal proceedings; prepares legal opinions; and advises City officials of changes to State or Federal laws affecting City operations. In addition, the City Attorney prepares and reviews various legal documents including ordinances, resolutions, contracts, easements, intergovernmental agreements, dedications of right-of-way, leases, deeds, and other documents. Oversight is provided with the prosecution of municipal ordinance violations and prosecution of liquor license violations before the Local Licensing Authority.

Position Qualifications: The knowledge and skills needed to be successful in this position are typically gained through the attainment of a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school plus five years of increasingly responsible experience as a practicing attorney in the area of municipal law. Candidates must be licensed to practice law in the State of Colorado and be a member in good standing with the Colorado Bar Association.
