Line Technician - Energy Construction, Operations, and Maintenance

The Line Technician is responsible for performing skilled activities in the installation, maintenance, switching and removal of overhead and underground electrical distribution and transmission systems. Typical Responsibilities This job description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities or qualifications associated with the job. Specific job assignments may include some or all of the following: *Installing underground or overhead electrical lines by laying pipe, pulling wire, and setting meters *Constructing, maintaining, and testing electrical systems and related equipment *Repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting street light systems, poles, luminaries, and circuits *Switching or rerouting electrical systems using proper sequencing and connections *Assuring compliance with safety standards and work practices *Operating line construction vehicles and equipment including wirepullers, bucket and boom trucks, and various hand tools *Preparing materials for line construction and charging materials to appropriate job *Logging completed work orders and preparing reports *Assisting in training Line Technician apprentices *Complying with the safety and health program in support of an incident and injury free workplace Skills / Requirements
Job Specifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
Solid Knowledge Of: *Electrical systems, principles, voltage requirements, equipment, installation, and maintenance *Construction standards and materials *Metering principles and practices *Basic street light principles and systems *Applicable regulations and industry standards *Hazardous material guidelines and requirements *Blueprints and schematics *All applicable safety procedures Skill In: *Operating equipment, including backhoes, thermoscan cameras, trenchers, and hand tools *Reading maps and blueprints *Troubleshooting electrical systems *Performing physical aspects of line construction and maintenance *Applying safety standards in completing work assignments *Interpreting specifications, schematics, and written instructions *Operating equipment including backhoes, thermoscan cameras, trenchers, and hand tools *Climbing poles *Installing and maintaining electrical distribution and transmission systems *Flagging and barricading job sites *Utilizing interpersonal skills to communicate with coworkers, supervisors, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction *Following all applicable safety procedures Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position are most often acquired through the following level of academic training and range of practical experience or an equivalent combination as stated below: Minimum Experience Required: the successful candidate will have completed an accredited apprenticeship program and have experience working as a journey level power lineman in overhead/underground electric distribution. A pre-employment physical will be required upon hire. Incumbent must have, or be able to obtain and maintain a valid class a commercial driver's license and a valid Colorado driver's license and residence within a 30 mile radius of the east service center facility is required. Typical Licensing/Certification Requirements: *Commercial Driver's License *Medical Examination Certificate *First Aide Certification *CPR Certification *Flagger Certification *Some positions may require an Industrial Radiographer Certification Supervisory Responsibility: No Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: This position typically requires: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. This position may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions and intense noises. Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
