The Meter Specialist is responsible for calibrating, installing, disconnecting, maintaining and repairing all types of residential, commercial, and industrial electric meters and other related equipment. This also includes CT and PT instrument and AMR metering.

Typical Responsibilities This job description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities or qualifications associated with the job. Specific job assignments may include some or all of the following:

*Installing and removing various types of electric meters and related equipment
*Performing inspections and ensuring proper operation of electric meters
*Testing and calibrating electric meters
*Operating testing equipment such as voltmeters, ammeters, burden meters, and other related equipment
*Repairing and maintaining electric meters, recorders, communication devices and related equipment
*Reading wiring diagrams to install proper wiring and metering applications
*Programming electronic reading programs
*Answering phones and providing technical assistance
*Performing meter reading of special accounts and probing
*Complying with the safety and health program in support of an incident and injury free workplace
Minimum Experience Required: Most people in this occupation will have completed a meter shop apprenticeship program with certificate. Ideal candidate will have completed meter shop program and have certificate.

Typical Licensing/Certification Requirements:
Physical Examination required upon hire A recognized Journeyman Metermen certificate
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: This position typically requires: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. This position may be subjected to electrical currents, dusts, gases, extreme temperatures and travel. Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Additional requirements:

* Extremely proficient with computers and software applications
*Construction and installation standards including Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSHA) standards
*Writing installation and maintenance procedures
*Utilizing interpersonal skills to communicate with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
*Produce quality, accurate, prompt, and reliable results. Anticipate customer (internal and external) needs and fulfill them
*Maintain cooperative working relationships; eliminate barriers to teamwork
*Maintain compliance with CSU policies and procedures
*Demonstrate individual commitment to an incident and injury free workplace. Take personal responsibility for own safety and the safety of others. Willing to stop work when safety concerns exist. Bring safety hazards to the attention of other workers and management
