Jobing Description
Jefferson County Public Schools seeks a Para-Educator to perform a full range of educational/non-educational duties in a Challenge, SLIC (Significant Limited Intellectual Capacity), SIED (Significantly Identifiable Emotionally Disturbed), LLC (Language Literacy Center), ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) or Multiple Disability Center Programs. Provide support as needed including instructional support, clerical, lunch/recess, and personal needs.
Provide instructional support in all academic areas to students in the center program. Provide support to special education teacher such as preparing materials, assist in the preparation of IEP (Individualized Education Plan), provide input into the IEP, develop worksheets or instructional materials for individual students, keep attendance and activity records, collect and account for student activity/field trip money, and implement behavior management plans. On occasion, provide support outside of the center program as directed. Perform assigned lunch/recess/bus duties which include supervision in the cafeteria, playground and pre/post boarding of buses. Perform personal need duties including bathroom assistance, feeding and lifting students. Discuss and articulate confidential information, such as student records, with appropriate individuals including teachers, parents and other professionals. Attend in-service trainings as required. Trainings may include, but not limited to, wheelchair tie down, bereavement (assisting students with issues surrounding death and dying, and learning how to deal with the mental stress of working with medically fragile students), preventing back injuries; implementing behavior management plans consistently; microcomputer skills; and information on disabilities. EDUCATION AND TRAINING: High school diploma/GED required. At least 48 semester credit hours of college, an Associate's Degree or higher, or passing the WorkKeys Test required for Title I schools. EXPERIENCE: No experience required. Prefer one year of related work experience in K-12 school setting. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT: Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work with medically fragile children. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS: CPR and First Aid certificates highly recommended. Important Notes
