Job: Pathologist Assistant (PA)

APP-UniPath LLC is the largest Pathology Practice in the Rocky Mountain Region, with 25 pathologist physicians and supporting histotechnologists, cytotechnologists, management, and other personnel. Our staff provides laboratory and pathology services to hospitals, clinics, doctors' offices, laboratories, and other facilities along the Front Range of Colorado and beyond.

We are currently looking for a Pathologist Assistant to provide technical services in surgical and autopsy pathology under the supervision of a Pathologist(s). This position is responsible for the examination and/or preparation of pathology specimens and assisting with postmortem examinations. This is a full-time position, Monday-Friday, 1st shift with probable hours of 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM. Flexible scheduling, including overtime and weekend rotation, maybe required to meet the needs of hospital locations.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Assures appropriate accession and numbering of all tissue specimens.

Performs gross dictation.

Prepares tissue biopsies and surgical specimens for histologic processing.

Completes block log forms and prepares cassettes.

Maintains surgical pathology suite.

Assists Pathologists with fetal and adult postmortem examinations and with the preparation and staining of frozen sections.

Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies and accepted industry standards across various hospital locations and assists with preparation for accreditation inspections.

Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education or Formal Training:

Graduate of an NAACLS approved training program or OTJ trained.

ASCP Board Certification as a Pathologist Assistant or comparable experience.

Member of AAPA and ASCP preferred.

Three years of progressively responsible experience which demonstrates the knowledge and expertise necessary to perform gross dissection and dictation of tissue preferred.

Experience & Requirements:

Thorough knowledge of pathology and anatomy with basic knowledge of histology.

Expert skills in dictation and dissection with the ability to train Grossing Technicians.

Knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 coding and basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Products.

Basic knowledge of handling biohazardous materials.

Excellent time management skills and the ability to handle high-pressure situations.

Ability to work effectively with others and communicate (oral and written) across all organizational levels.

Ability to prioritize, multitask, evaluate situations, and make independent decisions.

Requires visual acuity, normal color perception, finger dexterity, eye-hand coordination, and ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
