This position requires a person who has the ability to work evenings, holidays, weekends and on-call for snow or other emergency events.
Arapahoe County Public Works and Development's Road and Bridge Division is located at 7600 S. Peoria Street Englewood, Colorado 80112.

The following duty statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other non- essential or marginal duties that may be required. The County reserves the right to modify or change the duties or essential functions of the job at any time.
Operates three (3) or more pieces of highway construction and maintenance equipment such as sweepers, roller, tandem axle truck with snowplow, loader, skid steer, backhoe, and asphalt spreader.
Operates light equipment such as patch roller and forklift.
Performs manual labor duties requiring the use of hand tools such as shovels, picks, rakes, chain saws, axes, hand saws, power drills, post hole diggers, and 90-pound jack hammer.
Performs preparation and patching of damaged roadway areas with asphalt including shoveling and raking of the asphalt. Controls traffic at work site by flagging and/or placing barricades.
Removes snow from streets and other public thoroughfares; loads deicing material into trucks and spreads deicing material onto the roadway with tandem axle truck.
Checks and maintains proper fluid levels and air pressures of equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge in the operation and maintenance of any assigned heavy equipment; knowledge of road construction methods, materials, and specifications.
Knowledge of safety rules, regulations and practices.
Ability to perform strenuous manual labor as required for extended periods of time.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, other employees, and the general public.
High school graduation or GED equivalent.
One (1) year experience operating 3 or more pieces of highway construction and maintenance equipment such as skid steers, backhoe, loader, sweepers, roller, tandem axle, and asphalt spreader.
(An equivalent combination of education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job may be sufficient).
- Supplemental Information
The incumbent must successfully obtain a Class A CDL within six months of hire. (Training will be provided)
This position requires successful completion of pre-employment testing which includes an acceptable current motor vehicle check, background check, physical capabilities examination and drug screen.
Must be able to pass the Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) required Drug and Alcohol and Physical examinations prior to hire.
This position is required to work on an on-call basis for winter storm duty and other emergency conditions at all hours of the day or night. Shift work for snowstorms may require 12 hour shifts.
Works under the general supervision of the Road and Bridge Operation Manager and the Eastern Road Operation Supervisor. Direct supervision is received from the Road & Bridge Supervisor and/or lead worker as assigned.
May act as lead worker over work crew as assigned by Road and Bridge Supervisor.
Contacts are with superiors, peers, subordinates, elected officials, users, and/or vendors. Contacts require the ability to exercise a high degree of interpersonal skills to influence persons at all levels. Incumbent is accountable for the results of the contact.
Position requires exposure to all weather conditions, high noise levels, dust, fumes, and other road traffic conditions.
