POSITION SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse Oncology position functions as a direct patient caregiver within the unit’s care delivery system.  Demonstrate physical and mental ability to apply nursing theories, procedures and standards to clinical practice.  Identifies patient learning needs, develops and implements and individualizes teaching plan for patients.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education or Formal Training
Special Qualifications (Licensure, Registration, etc.)

  1. Colorado RN license in good standing.
  2. BLS certification required by completion of conditional period.
  3. OCN certification preferred.
  4. ONS Chemotherapy certification within 6 months of hire.  New Graduate RN’s will have 1 year from hire to complete ONS certification.
  5. ACLS required for Clinical Team Leads
Knowledge, Skill and Ability
Demonstrated physical and mental ability to apply nursing theories, procedures and standards to clinical practice.

Experience
  1. At least one year of nursing in an acute care setting preferred.
  2. Acute oncology experience preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Patient Care
  1. Provides direct total patient care for specific group of patients with collaboration as needed.
  2. Demonstrates clinical competence in performing nursing procedures and identifies the rationale underlying the nursing skills.
  3. Identifies patient care problems, makes interventions based upon an understanding of the biopsychosocial processes.
  4. Assesses patient status systematically and anticipates and responds to changes in patient clinical condition.
  5. Actively seeks participation of the patient, family, and other members of the health care team to assure continuity of patient care.
  6. Communicates clearly in all aspects of documentation.
  7. May be required to perform point of care testing.  May be a point of care trainer.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
  1. Physical working environment may include, but not be limited to, any of the following hazards:  chemical, electrical, mechanical, biowaste, explosive, radiation, etc.
  2. Environmental conditions may include, but not be limited to, variations in temperature, noise, odors, etc.
  3. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to constantly stand and walk. The employee frequently is required to stoop, crouch and twist. The employee is occasionally required to kneel, squat and sit.
  4. The employee must be able to consistently support, push, pull and/or lift up to 10 pounds, frequently support, push, pull and/or lift up to 30 pounds and occasionally support, push, pull and/or transfer up to 50 pounds (for example, moving a patient from a wheelchair to a bed).
  5. Functional physical demands include manual dexterity, fine motor skills and reaching. The following senses will be needed for essential duties of the job: speech, vision, hearing, smell and touch.
