This position works one-on-one or in small groups with Camp participants that have special needs. 

Camp runs May 29th - August 9th. Shifts are scheduled to cover camp hours of Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. 

 Essential Required Tasks/Examples of Duties:

Maintains confidentiality of information consistent with applicable federal, state and city/county rules and regulations.

General Duties:

  • Supervises opening and closing of Broomfield facilities as needed.  
  • Supervises and leads programs as needed.
  • Supervises employees, volunteers, and participants during programs or facility activities.  
  • Ensures all scheduled officials, scorekeepers, custodians, recreation workers, facility attendants, instructors, etc. are present to perform assigned duties.  
  • Directs, guides and motivates employees as needed.
  • Responsible for set-up and takedown of necessary equipment needed for programs or functions.
  • Duties require a full range of physical motion and activities including manual digging, pushing, pulling, lifting, twisting and turning the upper body, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, balancing, crawling, reaching for objects, walking and standing.  
  • The incumbent must also be alert to peripheral activities when operating equipment and therefore must have a full range of movement in the neck and shoulders.
  • Plans, directs and/or instructs various program activities as needed, in accordance with the scope of the position and direction provided in staff meetings, policy guidelines, staff manuals and by supervisors.
  • Promote interest and provide information regarding recreation programs to the public.  
  • Enforces all rules and regulations of programs and facilities; ensures that the facility is safe for use.
  • Ensures adherence to posted policies and rules regarding safe facility and equipment usage.
  • Assists in the daily/weekly cleaning, maintenance, and safety inspections.
  • Handles all emergency situations by calling appropriate staff and agencies.
  • Assists staff in all other areas of the facility as needed.
  • Greets the public and is a visible contact for the public and the event's contact person.  
  • Inspects the facility initially, and every half-hour after the public has arrived.
  • Checks rooms to ensure that set-up is complete and accurate.
  • Where appropriate, ensure that groups receive all services arranged for in their contract.
  • At the end of each event or program, ensures that all belongings and decorations have been taken, trash has been collected and deposited in the dumpster, bases and equipment have been put away, and the facility is in the condition in which it was found.
  • Identifies and recommends improvements in divisional and departmental operations to ensure assigned functions are efficient and cost effective.
  • Takes proper safety precautions, anticipates unsafe circumstances, and acts accordingly to prevent accidents.
  • Uses all required safety equipment.  
  • Performs related duties as required.
  • Assists in planning, directing, and facilitating activities for Youth and Teen programs.
  • Co-supervises opening and closing of Recreation/Senior Center or programs with Teen Coordinator, including signing in and out.
  • Serves as a positive role model with emphasis on interpersonal communication, physical and mental health, appropriate boundaries, and confrontation with support.
  • Operates a motor vehicle.

 Minimum Qualifications:

Training -  High school graduate or GED equivalent.  Current, valid AED, First Aid and CPR Certifications preferred.  Some college-level education in recreation, physical education, or education preferred.

Experience - None.  Previous experience in an organized recreation program and experience working with the public in providing customer service preferred.  


Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the Necessary Applicant Traits.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: - Must be at least 18 years of age.  Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a safe driving record for continued employment.  AED, First Aid and CPR certifications must be obtained within 30 days of employment and must be maintained for continued employment.  New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: oral board, reference checks, CVSA/polygraph, background checks including local police check and sex offender registry, driving record check through DMV and fingerprint checks through CBI/FBI.

 Working Conditions:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job.  The noise level in the environment is moderate. Work is scheduled for a variety of hours including evenings, weekends and holidays. Working in the Recreation Services Division may require indoor and outdoor activities. The incumbent is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, and may be exposed to a variety of potential safety hazards.  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; run, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl or swim. Climbing Wall/Weight Room will have physical demands that include but are not limited to belaying, climbing, rappelling, lifting, moving and maintenance of equipment, setup and take down of inflatables.  Physical demands are described as heavy (exert up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, and peripheral vision.  Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
