POSITION TITLE: Facility Attendant (Hourly)

HOURLY RATE: $11.50 - 13.00 per hour (based on relevant experience)

Summary: Provides support in the areas of facility, program, and event preparation. Sets-up and dismantles equipment, tables, chairs, audio visual equipment, marker boards, flip charts, and kitchen equipment in all areas of the facility. Assists clients and full-time staff as needed. In addition, performs custodial responsibilities throughout the facility as required to maintain facility appearance, service to public and operational status.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties and responsibilities and illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.

  • Functions as a member of a program team and works with that team to provide specific activities, resources, and services to the public.

  • Sets-up and dismantles equipment throughout the facility.

  • Maintains audio visual equipment and supplies, facilitates repairs, and maintains inventory.

  • Is responsible for all the needs of the programs and activities while on duty.

  • Coordinates with the Facility Supervisor to provide a well-maintained and clean facility.

  • Provides custodial services throughout the facility as needed and reports any deficiencies to supervisor.

  • Monitors and secures the facility as needed.

  • Shovels snow and maintains sidewalks and patio as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position is not responsible for the supervision of employees.


Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the necessary functions of this position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Occasionally works independently without direct supervision.

  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationship with co-workers, participants and the public.

  • Communicates effectively in both oral and written form with external and internal customers.

  • Ability to show sensitivity in dealing with all age groups, persons with disabilities, and a diverse population.

  • Basic computer knowledge and ability to operate a variety of office and audio visual equipment.

  • Ability to understand and apply department procedures and policies.

  • Ability to handle sensitive or stressful situations with tact and diplomacy.

  • Ability to use table and chair dollies, kitchen equipment, carpet vacuum, snow blower, upholstery cleaner, hammer, screw drivers, ladders, paint equipment and various hand tools, standard office equipment including copiers, computers, audio visual equipment, and motor vehicles.

  • The facility has a dynamic and changing event and activity schedule. Flexibility in ones ability to work varying shifts is desirable, particularly regarding weekend and holiday shift availability.

Education and Experience: Minimum age is 18. Customer service and custodial maintenance experience is helpful.

Language Skills: Ability to read instructions and communicate with City supervisor and the general public. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisor, groups of clients, customers, and the general public. Bilingual capabilities in Spanish and English desirable but not mandatory.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve and implement practical solutions to problems. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Foresee and initiate proactive measures to insure program quality, customer service and facility integrity.

Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations:

  • Current driver's license

  • CPR and First Aid Certifications required or ability to obtain certifications within 60 days of hire

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Work will include the following: 1) regular standing and walking; 2) bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, jumping, twisting, balancing, climbing, kneeling, crouching, and reaching; physical activity required in building set-up, tear-down, custodial, and maintenance; 3) frequent lifting and carrying 15 to 25 pounds to head height or higher throughout a shift while performing various functions including setting up or cleaning up for various programs and events; 4) hand/eye coordination for operation of a computer keyboard; 5) foot-eye coordination for the operation of a motor vehicle; 6) vision to read written materials and understand direction; 7) speech and hearing capabilities to maintain communication with citizens and employees. Building Attendant

Performance Steps

Step 1

Performs as required by job description with direct supervision.

  • Minimum responsibilities, scheduled as assigned.

  • Attends assigned meetings and trainings.

Step 2

Performs as required by job description with direct supervision.

  • Minimum responsibilities, scheduled as assigned.

  • 480 hours working as a building attendant.

Step 3

  • Must have one of the following skills:

    • Title VI Spanish Speaking proficiency

    • Bachelor Degree

    • Fully trained clerical aide

    • Proficiency at driving ice maintenance machine

    • Strong AV background and knowledge

    • Proficiency at Colorado Timing System products

  • Accumulates a minimum of 1040 hours

  • Favorable review by the Facility Supervisor

  • Initiative and ability to do work beyond what is expected.

  • Willingness to work extra hours and help with special events, and holidays.

Lead Building Attendant

Step 1

  • Accumulates a minimum of 1500 hours and a favorable review by the Facility Supervisor

  • Must have experience as a building attendant and have sufficient skill to be able to manage small events and setups for large events.

  • Manages other building attendants if multiple staff are working at a time.

  • Assist supervisor in developing work schedules and training new employees.

  • Maximum of two people can be at the Lead Building Attendant Step 1 or 2 levels at a time total.

Step 2

  • Accumulates a minimum of 160 hours in the Lead Building Attendant Base Level position and a favorable review by the Facility Supervisor

  • Must have open availability on weekend nights.

  • Manages other building attendants if multiple staff are working at a time.

  • Assist supervisor in developing work schedules and training new employees.

  • Maximum of two people can be at the Lead Building Attendant Step 1 or 2 levels at a time total.

Step 3

  • Accumulates a minimum of 160 hours and a favorable review by the Facility Supervisor while acting as the Lead Building Attendant Step 1

  • This person will be delegating tasks and duties to other building attendants.

  • Must have open availability on weekend nights.

  • Manages other building attendants if multiple staff are working at a time.

  • This person must be able to attend weekly special event meetings.

  • Assist supervisor in developing work schedules and training new employees.

  • Maximum of one person can be at this level at a time.
