The full salary range for an Emergency Communications Specialist I is $19.58 - $27.41 hourly, broken into 15 steps. The hiring range ($19.58 - $21.61) represents steps 1 to 5. Each year, with the approval of City Council, employees receive an additional step increase of 2.5%. Typically, our Emergency Communication Specialists work ten-hour shifts, four days a week.

About the Grand Junction Regional Communication Center:
The Grand Junction Regional Communication Center (GJRCC) serves multiple highly-respected law enforcement and fire/EMS agencies that use state-of-the-art equipment and modern tactical response techniques to provide the highest level of service to the citizens of Mesa County, Colorado. You will be part of a team of professionals who work to better the lives of those in their community. Our recruitment, training, and hiring processes are certified at the national level, and we also work with national and statewide professional associations to better equip us to serve our citizens. Grand Junction, Colorado is the gateway to the mountains and canyonlands of western Colorado and eastern Utah. What You'll Do:
  • Answer emergent and non-emergent calls for service while simultaneously recording information from callers who are requesting police, fire, ambulance, and other emergency services
  • Calm, negotiate, advise, and otherwise communicate with callers to obtain the necessary information to determine both the nature of call as well as what resources to send
  • Coordinate and relay information and assistance requests to the appropriate law enforcement, fire, or emergency medical service agency


What We're Looking For:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Type 3,000 kph (50 wpm)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good moral character, judgment, and decision-making skills
  • High attention to detail and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work varying shifts, including day, swing, graveyard, holidays, and weekends as assigned
  • Ability to work required overtime when necessary
  • Ability to pass a background investigation that meets all local, State, and Federal requirements
