Greeley, Colorado


Provides regular personal contact and service to all Mountain Area producers within a field territory, maintaining a close working relationship and providing assistance as needed. Ensures a continuous high-quality milk supply is available for delivery to Mountain Area customers. Works with regulatory agencies and members to assure milk supply maintains IMS rating. Administers Mountain Area policies and programs at the producer level.
*The preferred candidate will have residence in the Greeley/Fort Collins, CO area.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Provide every producer with the specific services, information, and assistance he/she needs to produce high quality milk, stay abreast of developments in the dairy industry, and obtain the full benefits of being a DFA Mountain Area member. Promptly respond to all member requests and calls including those received outside normal working hours.
  • Perform thorough inspections of every member's dairy production facility as often as required by regulations and individual farm conditions to ensure its compliance with federal and state milk sanitation laws and regulations. Take appropriate corrective action when substandard conditions are encountered. Work cooperatively with all federal and state regulatory agencies, maintaining all licenses and certification required
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of the Mountain Area Managed Growth Program, providing timely information to members, potential members and the Growth Management Committee, helping assure the program's success. Adequately prepare and submit member growth applications on a timely basis. Provide ongoing updates to management as to the member's performance in meeting the application goals. In conjunction with the growth management program, perform annual member surveys with each Mountain Area member in the region to help identify potential production increases or declines in Mountain Area milk production.
  • Monitor member's milk quality/component test results and provide prompt technical advice and service to those having difficulty earning quality premiums or failing to meet local market standards. Advise the Area Supervisor of members who, after repeated efforts to assist them, are unwilling to correct chronic milk quality deficiencies, providing adequate information to help determine when next steps should be taken in terms of discontinuing market access. Advise members on state-of-the-art production practices they can employ to help improve milk quality and production efficiency.
  • Assure administration of DFA Gold Standard/FARM program in a timely manner, maintaining FARM certification and meeting program deadlines. Provide members with guidance and resources to help them meet program recommendations and continued improvement.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with the Mountain Area Transportation department, notifying them of any member concerns regarding milk hauling and assisting in resolution of any problems. Monitor sampling performance of drivers and working with the transportation department to assist with corrective action when deficiencies are found. Work with the transportation department to quickly rectify any farm scale issues affecting the accuracy of member payment and/or customer receipts.
  • Acquire and maintain weigher and samplers license, lab antibiotic confirmation certifications, FARM certification and any other licenses/certifications that may be required to perform assigned duties.
  • Alert the Area Supervisor and other appropriate staff to significant developments in the territory that affect the Mountain Area's relationships with members, customers, regulatory agencies, industry representatives, or the public.
  • Ensure the success of Mountain Area-sponsored meetings, setting them up, encouraging producers to attend, and participating in them as appropriate. Participate in local fairs, extension meetings, dairy promotion activities, and related events to present a positive image of the Mountain Area in the community.
  • Provide managers and administrative staff with complete, accurate, timely information -- both written and verbal required to effectively administer Mountain Area programs and policies.
  • Stay abreast of current federal and state agriculture/dairy legislative issues. Contact legislators when necessary to present the Mountain Area position on an issue. Educate members on those issues and encourage them to contact their legislators in support of the Mountain Area position.
  • Provide proper care and maintenance for the Mountain Area's vehicle and equipment. Exhibit the values and ethics of Dairy Farmers of America through honesty, discretion, and sound judgment


Education and Experience

  • Associate degree in agriculture, agri-business, dairy/food science or related field
  • 2-4 years of directly related job experience.
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must obtain and maintain as required any certifications/licenses (e.g. - Lab certification for antibiotic testing, weigher and sampler, FARM Certification, etc. as a condition of continued employment

  • Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people in business and social settings
  • Good problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong customer service attitude/focus and a sincere desire to help dairy producers succeed
  • Must be willing to work in close proximity and geographical are of our members, specific location and requirements will be determined and discussed during recruiting process
  • Proficient Spanish language skills strongly preferred
  • Intermediate skill with desktop computers and MS Office software applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and MS Outlook
  • Substantial periods of driving required (20 - 30% of workday)
  • Occasional evening and weekend work required
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English
