OBJECTIVE:

To transport employees and clients from home to work and from work to appropriate bus stops.

REQUIREMENTS

The incumbent must be willing to be certified in CPR and First Aid. A valid Colorado driver’s license without a history of violations with a two-year safe driving record is also required. The incumbent must be between the ages of 25 and 70 for insurance purposes and needs to have at least one year experience of driving a 14-passenger van.  This position requires flexibility in the reporting hours as it is a split shift. Hours will vary as needed.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES

High School diploma or GED preferred. It is preferred that the incumbent have excellent communication skills and demonstrate the ability to interact with various types of internal and external customers. It is also preferred that the incumbent have the ability to relate effectively to disabled person. The Van Driver must maintain a professional attitude, appropriate hygiene, dress and grooming and be punctual and dependable. Incumbent must be able to perform heavy lifting and sitting for prolonged periods.   Occasional overtime may be required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS      {Essential Functions}

Transportation                                                                      

The Van Driver will use sound judgment when speaking with parents and Host Home Providers demonstrating the ability to relate to persons with disabilities and understanding of their needs. The incumbent will transport all assigned consumers to and from residence to day program. The Van Driver must be able to read and understand road maps, maintain, follow and adjust schedule of consumer pick-up and drop off times. The afternoon run will have some wait time due to employees needs on transportation, sometimes waiting times will be longer than expected. The incumbent will follow rules and regulations for driving within the state of Colorado.  

Van Maintenance and Safety

The Van Driver is responsible for the cleanliness of the vehicle’s interior and exterior. The incumbent will ensure all consumers utilize seat belts at all times as well as assist consumers on and off the vans at all times. The Van Driver will ensure the vehicle’s tank is maintained at least half full at all times.

Tracking and Reporting

The Van Driver will conduct and document vehicle inspection sheet of the vehicle prior to operating and report any vehicle deficiencies to the supervisor immediately. The incumbent will maintain a good working knowledge of vehicle accident reporting.

Relationship Management

The Van Driver will communicate effectively with consumers, co-workers and staff personnel.   The incumbent will communicate concerns and behaviors of consumers with case managers and maintain confidentiality. In addition, the Van Driver will engage and maintain conversations/interactions/responses with consumers that encourage independence and respect. The incumbent will also perform all other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor.

Hours:  May vary between 20-30 hours per week (with potential need for full time 40 hours per week).  Must be flexible Monday - Friday with availability to work more hours as needed.
