Overall Job Objective

Description

The airport electrician engages in the construction, installation, maintenance and repair of high and low-voltage electrical, constant current, communications, and electronic systems; acts as a lead for projects as assigned and oversees regulatory requirements for electrical permitting and regulatory compliance. Participates in various maintenance related tasks for the Eagle County Regional Airport including asphalt and concrete maintenance, painting, sandblasting, irrigation, fencing, snow removal, equipment operations, and maintenance, and keeps the facilities and grounds in clean and safe conditions.

Example of Duties

  • Plans, performs, coordinates, schedules, and inspects the construction, installation, maintenance, repair and servicing of high and low-voltage electrical, communications and electronics systems, including baggage conveyance systems, interior and exterior lighting systems, airport runway lighting and control systems, electrical circuits, generators, electrical pumps and motors, and related systems, devices and equipment.
  • Reviews work orders to determine material, equipment and personnel requirements.

  • Ensures compliance with safety regulations and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Advisory Circulars.

  • Conducts research and analysis on all assigned systems to ensure efficiency and provides recommendations for system improvement.

  • Assists with the preparation and review of plans and specifications; participates in the development and implementation of preventive maintenance; researches new operational methods, techniques and equipment and recommends their application.

  • Participates in the preparation of budget recommendations; purchases materials and monitors work activities and expenditures to control cost; prepares specifications for the purchase of electrical, communications and electronic equipment, devices and supplies.

  • Assists in the implementation of the Airport Emergency Plan (AEP), Airport Certification Manual (ACM) and the Airport Security Plan (ASP).

  • Participates in building and equipment maintenance, snow removal operations, and the operation of heavy equipment.

  • Develops and maintains beneficial relationships with airport staff, tenants, concessionaires, and airport users.

  • Trains internal and external personnel in a variety of subjects.

  • Mandatory availability and participation in snow removal operations.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

Minimum Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus completion of a formal apprenticeship program or a recognized technical training program.

Preferred Education:

  • Education/Certification/Completion from a technical school, college, university in an electrical field. (Professional Electrical experience can be substituted).

Experience:

Minimum Work Experience and Qualifications:

  • Four years of journey level electrical experience in residential, commercial construction, commercial building electrical, or industrial electrical setting.
  • ?Possess a Colorado Journeyman or Master Electrician License.
  • Professional experience related to electrical repair, installation, troubleshooting, in residential and commercial applications.

  • Experience with low voltage/control voltage repair, installation, troubleshooting (sensors, access control)

  • Industry standard knowledge of electrical distribution equipment and electrical systems.

  • Must satisfy all requirements to acquire and maintain Transportation Security Administration (TSA) security clearance.

Preferred Work Experience and Qualifications:

  • Completion of a recognized (line worker or inside wireman) apprenticeship program

  • Airfield Lighting Maintenance training and/or Airfield Electronics training

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to perform maintenance and repair work on high voltage airfield lighting circuits. Work includes normal maintenance such as monitoring resistance readings, bulb change out, cleaning, transformer replacement, and lens replacement, as well as emergency fault locating and repair.

  • Principles, practices, methods, and equipment used in the installation, maintenance, testing and repair of electrical and electronic equipment and devices.

  • Regulatory requirements for electrical permitting and regulatory compliance.

  • Safety practices, safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the associated work.

  • Operational characteristics of high and low voltage systems.

  • Operational characteristics of computer controlled systems.

  • Ability to use complex test equipment in troubleshooting and repairing of electrical/mechanical equipment.

  • Ability to read blueprints, electrical schematics, and wiring drawings.

  • Mechanical aptitude, problem solving, reading capability, business and customer service skills

  • Knowledge of the operation and repair of airfield lighting and control systems.  

  • Knowledge of electrical distribution equipment and electrical systems.  

  • Knowledge of general mathematics, algebra, and physics.

  • Ability to use complex test equipment in troubleshooting and repairing of electrical/mechanical equipment.  

  • Ability to prepare detailed work reports and submit written recommendations for improving operations.  

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.

  • Performs maintenance and repairs on building electrical distribution systems, passenger loading bridges, baggage handling systems, lift stations, security systems, and fire protection systems, etc.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration:

  • Must possess a valid State of Colorado Driver's License, or ability to obtain within 60 days, with a satisfactory motor vehicle record without restrictions.

  • Possess a Colorado Journeyman or Master Electrician License.


Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: This position may involve working weekends, holidays and may be subject to recall to support operational needs and/or emergencies.
