Work Hours: Full time plus on-call required


The Peer Specialist is a person with lived mental health experience who uses their recovery experiences as a means to help others diagnosed with a mental illness find their own recovery process. The peer specialist is part of a multi-disciplinary team that participates in the planning and organizing of individual and group activities that promotes a range of self-help skills.

Education or Formal Training and Experience:
? High School or equivalent
? Successful completion of Peer Specialist Training and Peer Specialist Internship Program or willing to obtain this training
? Experience working with consumers and/or family members of a consumer of mental health services a plus
? Experience as a family advocate a plus
? Basic computer and keyboarding skills
Knowledge, Skill and Ability: (include materials and equipment directly used)
? Ability to lead in a supportive, professional manner
? Ability to work well with other agencies and businesses in the communities
? Knowledge of the principles of managed care, case management techniques and/or knowledge of Recovery
? Ability to facilitate groups
? Ability to listen, problem solve, resolve conflict, and be solution focused
? Ability to meet due dates, time requirements, and commitments
? Ability to communicate clearly with clients, staff and the public
? Ability to relate in a supportive and non-judgmental manner with persons in distress
? Ability to observe and describe behavior and/or symptomatic changes
? Ability to assess level of risk and make appropriate judgment for resolution of client emergencies to effect a safe outcome
? Must have advanced computer and keyboarding skills
? Ability to travel within the community
? Ability to drive, maintains a valid driver license
? Ability to work a flexible schedule
? Ability to travel to other Center offices
? Ability to interact with people in a professional, friendly manner
? Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively and constructively as part of an interdisciplinary team
? Ability to think critically and independently
? Ability to realize and activate potential in every interaction, every day
? Ability to adapt to change in the workplace
? Ability to use change as an opportunity for innovation and creativity
? Ability to inspire and model collaborative teamwork

? Works a flexible schedule
? Must maintain a valid Colorado driver license
? Must maintain adequate car insurance on personal vehicle
? Use of personal vehicle required
? Center vehicles are only used to transport clients
? May need to provide services in private homes
? Works extended hours in front of a computer monitor
? Required to talk and hear
? Required to drive
? Often requires sitting and use of hands and fingers, to handle or feel
? Occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
? Vision abilities required by this job include close vision
? The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate
