The core responsibilities will include providing day-to-day legal advice, counsel, and services to commercial, business development, pipeline management, and regulatory teams working on Kinder Morgan’s extensive interstate pipeline system. The job will require strong skills in FERC regulatory matters as well as negotiating, drafting, and implementing long-term transportation and storage agreements, precedent agreements, regulatory pleadings, operating and construction agreements, joint venture agreements, and purchase and sales agreements. The position will also require excellent drafting skills and the ability to effectively collaborate with and manage outside counsel.

Position Requirements

Seeking candidate who is admitted or eligible for reciprocal admittance to the Colorado Bar with 7 to 10+ years of legal experience with a reputable law firm, pipeline company, or energy company (or a combination). The candidate should be adept at administrative law and understanding how Kinder Morgan’s pervasively regulated businesses are impacted by various federal, state, and local statutes and regulations. Candidates should have FERC regulatory experience, which should include knowledge of rate matters and certificates. Skills include drafting and reviewing certificate applications, tariffs, and a wide array of commercial agreements.
Candidates also should be skilled in structuring commercial and business development transactions. The ideal candidate also would have experience with pipeline joint ventures, natural gas transportation agreements, precedent agreements, operational issues, and integrity and safety regulation. Knowledge of the natural gas liquids and oil transportation sectors is not required but a plus. This position is for a team player who is flexible and willing to do what it takes to support effective operation of Kinder Morgan’s extensive natural gas network on a day-to-day basis while simultaneously helping to identify and capture longer-term business opportunities. Candidates must be nimble, responsive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. The candidate must have excellent writing, research and communications skills, including demonstrated ability in working effectively with all levels of the organization including the company’s President, Vice Presidents, and other senior leaders. This position requires 10% to 20% travel. A relocation package can be negotiated for qualified candidates.
