Position will remain open until filled.

Part-time, 24 hours per week.

General Statement of Duties: Provides basic bookkeeping, accounting and administrative support to the Division Director and finance staff. Assists in a variety of clerical duties, accounting, and project based work as assigned by the Division Director and staff. Performs a variety of technical and confidential work as it relates to accounts payable/accounts receivable procedures for Montrose County.


Supervision Received: Works under the supervision of the Division Director or his/her designee and performs a variety of routine work within established policies, procedures and receives detailed instructions on new projects and assignments.


Supervision Exercised: This position has no supervisory responsibilities


Essential Functions: Any one position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all duties which may be found in positions of this class.

  •  Serves as backup to accounts receivable and accounts payable when needed.
  • Creates and modifies documents using Microsoft Office software.
  • Performs general clerical duties to include photocopying, faxing, mailing, and filing.
  • Maintains hard copy and electronic filing system.
  • Researches, prices, and purchase office equipment and supplies.
  • Maintains sick and vacation leave, and complete payroll transmittal.
  • Supports staff with assigned and project based work.
  • Reconciles Treasurer deposit report with data entered into financial management system.
  • Prepares weekly cash and check deposit.
  • Collects incoming checks and prepare monthly deposits.
  • Collects fuel inventories, enters data weekly, and prepares monthly report.
  • Ensures proper/timely submission of required monthly expenditure reports.
  • Attends work on a daily basis.
  • Prepares spreadsheets and other budgetary materials when required by supervisory staff.
  • Assists with preparation of special projects including completion of packets for budget meetings, and preparations of preliminary and final budget books.
  • Organizes, boxes, and codes archive files of all finance reports in accordance with Montrose County RDC records management system.
  • Prepares for month-end procedures in the AR system for monthly closing.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.



Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Education: A High School graduate or equivalent with additional coursework in office and business practices. College-level courses in accounting and technical training desirable.


Experience: A minimum of two (2) years experience in the field of accounting/office administration in a private or public organization.


Required Knowledge: Well organized and a self-starter; alpha, numeric filing skills; detail oriented, professional attitude, reliable; possess strong organizational and time management skills; strong problem solving skills, basic accounting principles knowledge, research, documentation, and multi-tasking skills; basic understanding of applicable accounts receivable/accounts payable or ability to learn; work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness; maintain confidentiality.


Language Skills: Must have the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and the skill to organize materials and present information clearly and concisely in verbal and written form. Must understand and follow verbal and written instructions. Must have proficient knowledge of the English language, proper grammar, punctuation and spelling in other oral and written communication and have the ability to write routine reports and correspondences. Must be able to read, comprehend and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and standard operating procedures required for this position, as well as, basic how-to documents and manuals.


Interpersonal Skills: Must have the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with fellow employees, representatives of other agencies and organizations and members of the community. Must have a strong customer focus orientation and have the ability provide information, answering questions and taking messages. Must be able to accept interruptions in a polite and effective manner. Must have the ability to be an effective team member and maintain sensitive and confidential information. Must maintain appropriate professional boundaries in relationships with customer/clients and the general public.


Mathematical Skills: Must have the ability to work with moderate to complex mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, percentages, decimals, proportions rates and ratios. Must be able to analyze technical data and apply it to practical situations. Must have knowledge of basic financial transactions such as calculating interest, debit and credits.


Reasoning Skills: Must be able to apply basic principles of logic and reasoning to a variety of practical problems. Have problem solving and troubleshooting skills. Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and work on multiple tasks. Must be able to exercise some independent judgment and function under pressure. Must be able to accomplish assigned tasks to meet established performance standards and objectives and thinks through the consequences of a decision prior to making it.


Office Technology/Computer Skills: Must be able to apply principles of logic and reasoning or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems and work independently with minimal direction. Must be able to prioritize work and simultaneously manage multiple responsibilities at times under pressure of tight deadlines and emotional situations. Must have the skill to solve problems involving concrete and abstract variables in a variety of situations within established guidelines.

Ability to work extended shifts and attend training and meetings outside of regularly scheduled hours and the ability to work in stressful situations.

Special Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver's License and satisfactory driving record.
