Under the direction of the Land Admin Center of Excellence (COE) Manager, the COE Analyst is responsible for supporting the Manager in maximizing the internal operations performance of the Land Admin function in delivering operational excellence. The Analyst will leverage intermediate knowledge and experience in Lease Records and/or Division Orders to support consistent processes and promote effective use of systems, tools, and training to the Land Administration team, while providing basic guidance and thought leadership to others.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Understands the Company, Land, and Land Admin strategy and goals, and how COE supports and impacts each of these organizations.
  • Supports the championing of standardization, development and improvement in the delivery of the reliable data required to meet Land Admin’s business objectives and critical internal touchpoints; works with Land Admin team to understand Regional/Asset needs to help identify where processes need to be standardized vs where they need to be specific to the region/asset.
  • Provides support in special projects and initiatives, such as acquisitions, exchange and divestitures; supports accuracy and completeness of controls for acquisitions and exchanges.
  • Works a variety of tasks to support the agility needed within the Land Admin team (required to meet fluctuating demand in the number of resources).
  • Supports internal partnerships within the Land Admin organization to continuously improve efficiency and effectiveness through the application of best practices.
  • Supports the COE in developing solutions supporting strong internal relationships understanding other departments’ goals and anticipation of future needs.
  • Intermediate understanding of the applicable system(s) (e.g. SAP and/or Quorum), the data needed, and how it’s used by stakeholders; asks questions to prompt stakeholder understanding to make efficient and effective decisions.
  • Supports COE management in developing and running Land Admin scorecards/reporting.
  • Supports change management methods to ensure new tools, processes and systems are adopted and utilized by the Land Admin team.
  • Seeks opportunities for continuous improvement; demonstrating a mindset toward continuously adding value.
  • May support research projects (e.g. Legal, End of Year, owner interest, etc.).
  • Conduct business with the highest ethical standards; demonstrate decision-making skills that ensure the safety of all persons associated with SM facilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Role-Specific Technical Knowledge & Skills:

For those whose work is aligned most closely with Lease Records:

  • Demonstrate detailed experience and knowledge of lease and contracts terms and provisions.
  • Strong understanding of Land Administration principles including analysis of different agreement forms and maintenance.
  • Ability to calculate and maintain participation on leases, including the ability to calculate mineral interests, working interests, overriding royalty interest, and net revenue interests, varying in difficulty.
  • Strong understanding of title issues affecting the oil and gas lease.
  • Proficient understanding and knowledge of acquisition/divestiture process.

For those whose work is aligned most closely with Division Orders:

  • Demonstrates detailed experience and knowledge of oil and gas lease forms, payout scenarios, and the escheat process.
  • Strong understanding of title, types of ownership, conveyance instruments, suspended funds, and statutory regulations/requirements as they relate to revenue and joint interest billing decks.
  • Ability to calculate working interests, net revenue interests, unit ownerships, carried interest, and back-in ownerships, varying in difficulty.
  • Strong understanding of owner adjustments, reverse and rebook/rebill processes and when to use each.
  • Proficient understanding and knowledge of acquisition/divestiture process.
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Petroleum Management or Business Preferred

Minimum of 2 years related experience
