Job Description

Overall Job Objective

Job Summary

The part-time BMX Instructor is responsible for teaching lessons in the assigned Sport(s)  to various age groups at our BMX track in Highlands Ranch. 

Job Requirements

Essential Duties:
Teaches sports lessons and/or clinics to children, adults, and/or groups of participants.
 
Explains and demonstrates assigned sport principles and techniques.
 
Observes students during practice and provides correction techniques as needed.
 
Implements and monitors seasonal sports camps.
 
Follows established curriculum and assists in preparing, distributing, and collecting
equipment and materials, and ensures that participants are provided with safe and proper instruction.
 
Conveys ideals of positive sportsmanship to participants.
 
Oversees field locations and evaluates conditions for safety.
 
Sets up fields for play and coordinates equipment and supplies.
 
Maintains cleanliness and neatness of equipment and facility or athletic field. 

Assists with tournaments, leagues, birthday parties, and supervision of facility or athletic fields.
 
Ensures a pleasant visit for each guest; maintains effective guest relations. 

Completes all other duties and projects as assigned. 

Complies with District and departmental rules and regulations, policies and procedures.

May serve as an Emergency services worker.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:


Education & Experience: Must be at least 15 years of age. High School or College player preferred with basic instructional skills. Must have experience with BMX.
Must demonstrate ability to communicate technical aspects of the sport, as well as philosophy and history, to participants and youth's parents.
 
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 
Must be highly motivated and take direction well with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
 
Knowledge of: sports instruction; safety and emergency first-aid procedures; and effective customer service principles.
 
The ability to successfully: establish and maintain a safe and fun sports program environment; work evenings and weekends; work productively without supervision within established policies and procedures;  provide superior customer service and resolve customer complaints and escalated problems.

CERTIFICATIONS AND DRIVING REQUIREMENTS:


Required Certifications: CPR, First Aid and AED or the ability to obtain upon hire are required.
 
Preferred Certifications: Any related certificates specific to BMX Coach Certification is highly desirable.
 
Driving Requirements: This position may be asked to drive a District vehicle to various District facilities and events. Must possess a valid Colorado Driver License or have the ability to obtain upon hire and maintain an acceptable driving record.

WORK ENVIRONMENT, EQUIPMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


Work Environment:
This position requires work indoors and outdoors subject to variable weather conditions, ecosystems, and landscape. May also work in busy office environment subject to continuous interruptions.
 
Tools & Equipment Used:
To successfully perform the required job duties, this position regularly uses a phone, computer, various sports equipment, and first-aid supplies and equipment.
 
Other Physical Demands:
 
Regularly: Stand, walk, sit, handle and operate objects and equipment, reach outward and above shoulder and carry, pull, push or lift up to 25 lbs. The employee must be able to see close up and at a distance with vision acuity and the ability to adjust focus allowing a broad field of vision. The employee must communicate clearly and effectively, must understand and be understood.

Occasionally: Climb, crawl, squat, kneel and lift up to 50 lbs.

Rarely: Carry, pull, push or lift 75+ lbs. or more with or without assistance.
