Overall Job Objective

Job Summary

Sport Officials are responsible for providing an atmosphere of fun, yet safe, environment.  Officials must be able to implement specific sport policies and rules of play in order to maintain an appropriate level of control, fairness and safety.  They should maintain a positive attitude and provide a friendly and upbeat customer service environment at all times.

Job Requirements

Education: Must be 18 years of age or older.
 
Experience: Individual should have excellent oral and written communications skills.  Additionally, should have at least basic knowledge of game and rules of sport interest.  Previous officiating, coaching and/or playing experience is preferred but not mandatory.  Certifications are not required to officiate but are encouraged and will determine the level of play an individual will be responsible for officiating.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Working knowledge of sports and how the game is played. Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques used in recreational sporting events. 

Ability to make the proper calls on command and the ability to accept criticism. Ability to effectively meet and deal with the public and to handle stressful situations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, various community organizations, and the general public.
 
It is important that officials understand and learn the rules, know proper positioning and mechanics, and above all, know how to handle managers under difficult game situations.
 
Must have the ability to communicate effectively verbally; establish and maintain working relationships with employees and the public; work independently or with another official on assigned games; able to effectively communicate and enforce league rules; effectively demonstrate and promote enthusiasm and sportsmanship in the sport.
 
Candidates must successfully complete a background check including but not limited to a criminal history search.

Additional Information

Pay rates and schedules

Adult Soccer:  $24/game – Thursdays, Fridays (nights) and Sundays (year round/afternoons)
Adult Basketball: $20-24/game  – Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (year round/nights) 
Adult Lacrosse: $45/game – Tuesdays (winter/nights), Wednesdays (summer/nights), Sundays (spring/day)
Adult Softball: $20/game – Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays (spring, summer, fall/nights), and Sundays (spring, summer, fall/afternoons)
Adult Flag Football: $18-$24/game – Tuesdays (fall/nights) Sundays (winter/nights)
