Overall Job Objective

Job Summary

Responsible for learning, acquiring and performing various skills associated with accepted parks maintenance practices including and not limited to natural open space, trails and grounds maintenance work. This is a part time variable hour position and weekly work hours / days may vary.

Supervision Received:
This position reports directly to a designated Lead Maintenance Specialist or Supervisor in the Parks and Open Space Department.
Supervisor Duties:
May provide direction and/or leadership to additional part-time and/or seasonal staff or volunteers.
Duties will vary depending on assigned division, examples of regular duties include and are not limited to:
Performing maintenance inherent to maintaining irrigated turf grass, parks, trails, open space, horticulture and/or forestry,  including mowing and trimming, aeration, fertilization, irrigation, renovations, pruning trees shrubs, et.
Performs trash and recyclables removal operations.  Cleans and clears park grounds and facilities of litter and debris, operation of a trash / recyclables removal truck, common hand tools, installation and removal of waste receptacles and dog waste station maintenance.
Maintains public shelter facilities including roof repair, picnic table repair, trash receptacle repair, stocking of supplies, painting, staining, restroom cleaning, sanitizing, grill maintenance.
Assists staff with District sponsored events, making deliveries of materials and supplies necessary to meet the requests of facility rentals and work orders. This position requires the setting up and disassembly of event tents, tables, picnic benches and chairs.

Performs minor maintenance and repairs on equipment and may perform routine inspections of facilities.
Participates in snow removal operations as well as the cleaning and maintenance of the facility as needed.
Completes time card, daily activity reports, and other reports and records as required.  This position requires attendance and involvement in meetings on project progress, safety, park maintenance practices, procedural changes and other topics related to the operations of the District.
Performs other duties and special assignments as directed by the direct Supervisor including other assignments that may be outside the primary area of employment.  Performs other duties and special assignments as assigned.
Provides excellent Customer Service for all internal and external customers. 
Exercises good judgement and proper safety precautions and practices at all times. Comply with District and Departmental vision, mission, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Ensures proper care of assigned tools and equipment. Performs preventive maintenance or minor repairs or notifies appropriate personnel of need for maintenance.
Regularly drives a District vehicle during the course of daily work. Also drives a personal vehicle to additional District facilities for meetings, training, and other business purposes.
Responds tactfully, respectfully and in a timely fashion to inquiries and problems in person and by phone providing helpful information and explanations in-line with District policies and procedures. Thoughtfully handles confrontational or stressful interactions.
Required to work weekends, evenings and holidays as well as work shifts different from other work groups.
Complies with District and Department policies and procedures.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education: Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: One year of previous park maintenance experience is preferred. A combination of experience and education may be considered.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge and familiarity of District facilities, parks, open spaces and trail systems.
Knowledge of common commercial maintenance practices used in public facility maintenance, trail & open space maintenance and irrigation maintenance.
Knowledge of common public safety practices while maintaining public areas and the ability to perform job hazard analysis.
Knowledge of best management practices relative to commercial landscape maintenance.
Skills equivalent to one year of parks maintenance work to include commercial mowing operations, small engine tool use in the construction or landscape trade and the operation of commercial landscape equipment is necessary.
Skills related to the use of various hand tools, common commercial irrigation repairs and the ability to receive and implement instructions.
Ability to assist staff with District sponsored events, making deliveries of materials and supplies necessary to meet the requests of facility rentals and work orders. The ability to listen, retain and perform verbal and written instructions is necessary.
Ability to maintain public shelter facilities including picnic table repair, trash receptacle repair, stocking of supplies, painting, staining, restroom cleaning, sanitizing and grill maintenance.
Ability to learn and then perform specific maintenance tasks in an efficient manner.
Ability to establish and maintain desirable working relationships with other District employees and the general public.
Must possess a good work ethic and be reliable.
Must have a current driver license and maintain an acceptable driving record with less than 6 points within the last 3 years and no "major" driving violations in the most recent 4-year period.
The ability to successfully complete a background check including but not limited to criminal history search is required.

Certifications and Driving Requirements:
Preferred Certifications: Any related certifications.
Driving Requirements: This position regularly drives a District vehicle. Must possess a valid Colorado Driver License, or have the ability to obtain upon hire, and maintain an acceptable driving record.

Work Environment, Equipment and Physical Demands:
Work Environment:
This position requires work in a variety of settings including working indoors and frequently outdoors, daytime and night-time including in dark areas, subject to variable weather conditions, ecosystems, and landscape.  Outdoor working environments can be wet, humid, and extreme in temperature variations. Regularly exposed to loud noises, dust, wildlife, and chemicals.
Tools & Equipment Used:
To successfully perform the required job duties, this position regularly uses: assorted power and hand tools; various mowing equipment; light duty trucks and trailers; fertilizers; assorted power and hand tools; front-end loaders, tractors and implements (box scraper, trencher, mower, etc.); snow blower; snow plow truck; personal computer and Microsoft Office Suite 2010 or newer. This list is not all inclusive, additional tools and/or equipment may be used.
Physical Demands:
Regularly: Required to sit, manually manipulate, reach outward, reach above shoulders. Heavy physical work requiring ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds with or without assistance and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; considerable walking and standing; regular pushing, pulling and bending; some hand/eye and foot/eye coordination to operate motorized equipment; hearing and listening for receiving and interpreting information and warning signals. 
Occasionally: Crawl, squat, kneel or work in uncomfortable positions for short period of time.
Rarely: Lift up to 100 lbs.
