Summary


Under general supervision, employee maintains an assigned caseload of residents following facility policies and procedures and required by State and contractual obligations and in accordance with American Corrections Association “ACA” standards.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides sex offender maintenance programming and oversight for offenders participating in the Sex Offender Treatment and Monitoring Program to include development, implementation and modification of individual treatment plans.
  • Conducts and prepares psycho-sexual evaluations for use by community corrections, Parole Board, and treatment providers in the community.
  • Prepare Parole Board assessments to assist the Board in making release decisions.
  • Participates in support education meetings on a periodic basis. Participates in standardizing training workshops for correctional systems regarding the Dynamics of Sex Offenders.
  • Provides crisis intervention and consultation to correctional staff concerning high risk behaviors of sex offenders in State’s facilities.
  • Promotes and is accountable for the safety and security of the clinical and correctional environment through conscientious observations and sensitive item control.
  • Provides on-call mental health coverage on a rotating basis.
  • Develops individual treatment plans outlining specific program needs and objectives in accordance with intensive outpatient standards.
  • Develops continuing care treatment plans for assigned residents prior to discharge.
  • Provides appropriate documentation and reporting to the client and State.
  • Conducts regular treatment plan reviews and updates based upon changing needs of program participants.
  • Prepares monthly clinical services reports.
  • Conducts individual and group counseling sessions: presents program lectures to resident groups.
  • Provides intensive treatment to sex offenders by conducting group therapy based on Risk Need Receptivity (RNR) and supplemental individual therapy, status reviews, homework assignment reviews and feedback, and evaluations.
  • Ensures effective integration of support services such as family services, education, vocational services and self-help program services.
  • Participates as a member of the unit program team and collaborates with program counselors and/or mental health therapists to ensure a holistic program approach to sex offender maintenance programming.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Master's degree in a mental health field such as counseling, social work, psychology or marriage and family therapy.
  • Active licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist from the state in which the position functions.
  • One (1) year of professional counseling experience with the mental health and/or sex offender population, required.
  • Experience providing mental health or sex offender treatment in a correctional environment.
  • Application with the SOMB within 30 days of hire.
  • Knowledge of and ability to conduct crisis assessment and counseling utilizing therapist manuals and protocols and agency/facility security policies.
  • Ability to effectively interact with offenders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Mental health counseling with the offender population and crisis intervention experience.
  • Experience conducting suicide risk assessments.
  • Listing with the SOMB as a treatment provider (Sex Offender Treatment Provider);
  • Experience working as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
