Job Description
United Launch Alliance is hiring an Electrical Engineer RS-3 in Centennial, CO

The Electrical Engineer RS-3 researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.

The Electrical Engineer RS-3 position is a detailed design position within the Ground Electrical Design organization. The candidate will have primarily responsibility for the Ground Electrical Instrumentation System (Data Acquisition System and transducer interfacing).

External Additional Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
  • 4 - 8 years of directly related aerospace industry experience - particularly related to Data Acquisition Systems (DAS)
  • Experience interfacing multiple Instrument & Signal types to the DAS:  4-20 mA, 0-5VDC, 0-10VDC, etc  Bridge Completion, TRD, Thermocouple, Pressure, Flow meter, Calorimeter, Accelerometer, Strain bridge, etc
  • Thorough knowledge of electrical /electronic circuits with documented experience working with complex systems - including x86 based computer system integration and interfacing to I/O hardware
  • Solid understanding of electro-mechanical interfacing
  • Personal involvement with and responsibilities for implementing, maintaining and troubleshooting electrical systems
  • Experience and proficiency with CAD software used for creating detailed engineering drawings (AutoCAD, NX and Zuken preferred)
  • Extensive experience creating, reviewing, editing complex engineering drawings, parts lists, test procedures and schematics
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate COTS hardware into system level designs
  • Experience with stand-alone special test equipment
  • Fully knowledgeable of wire list creation, basic cable design/layout and harness design/modeling
  • Technical knowledge of grounding/bonding principals and practices
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance


External Preferred Qualifications
  • Past experience in ULA Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) design and deployment
  • Demonstrable communication skills (verbal and written, including presentations)
  • Experience working independently while being a great team member
  • Solid understanding of problem definition and issue resolution process steps
  • Prefer experience with one or more of the following:
    • Command/control circuits
    • Instrumentation (Data Acquisition Systems and transducer interfacing)
    • Communication systems (Network, Optical, IRIG, RS232/485, etc)
  • Candidates are self-motivated with demonstrated initiative, teamwork, and leadership skills during past work experience.

Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is typical of most office environments with telephones, personal interruptions, and background noises.

Mental Functions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate verbally and in writing and use interpersonal skills. The employee is regularly required to prioritize, multitask, analyze, interpret, coordinate, compile, evaluate, synthesize, compute, problem solve, concentrate, and think critically. The employee is occasionally required to copy, instruct, and negotiate.

Judgment and Decision-Making: Work is regularly assigned by self, supervisor, and departmental staff. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to exercise prudent judgment, decision making, and analytical skills to determine manner and operational steps necessary to properly handle inquiries and perform daily tasks within professional standards. Decision making is guided by ULA policies and procedures.
