About this Work Unit:
CMHIFL is a trauma-informed, recovery oriented treatment facility which provides care for an underserved population of Coloradans who experience severe and persistent mental illness. We serve a highly diverse population of individuals including those who may not speak English. Interpreter services are readily available to support treatment and evaluation of all clients

The Psychology Department at CMHIFL provides psychological services throughout the Colorado Mental Health Institute including: civil commitment evaluations, psychological assessments, psychiatric diagnoses, clinical assessments, consulting with the treatment teams, psycheducation/training throughout the hospital, direct patient care, group psychotherapy, maintaining responsibility for the team legal logs, supervising individually assigned  interns, and writing Behavior Management Plans.

Description of Job

The Weekend Psychologist provides a range of psychological services throughout the Institute including civil commitment evaluations, initial evaluation and assessment of newly admitted patients, consultation with nursing and medical staff, development of behavior management plans and providing individual, group, and family therapy as assigned. The Weekend Psychologist is an integral member of the Psychology Department and the interdisciplinary treatment team. Also, the Weekend Psychologist may provide support of the psychology internship program to include occasional supervision of assigned APA interns and the provision of a didactic training to interns and/or team staff.

Duties:

  • The Weekend Psychologist reviews the legal status of all patients admitted to CMHIFL and evaluates their mental status and condition to determine whether they can be released, can cooperate with voluntary inpatient treatment, or need to be certified pursuant to Colorado Mental Health Statutes (CRS 27-65-101 et seq.) for involuntary treatment.
  • The psychologist communicates findings to court by letters, petitions, and expert-witness testimony as needed
  • The psychologist conducts a variety of evaluations of patients admitted to CMHIFL through clinical interview, chart review, or administration of psychological surveys. 
  • Assists in determining differential diagnosis and may recommend formal psychological assessment.
  • Using psychological principles of learning and development,  reviews and modifies specialized Behavior Management Plans as needed to address the clinical needs of challenging clients. Consults with multidisciplinary team to design plans to address refractory symptoms.
  • Provide direct clinical services, informed by evidence-based approaches, including individual, group, and/or family therapy based on needs as assessed by the multidisciplinary treatment team.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:  Current, valid licensure as a Psychologist from the Colorado State Board of Psychologist Examiners.

AND
Experience:  
 One year of experience as a licensed psychologist or permitted psychologist candidate.

1. Knowledge of DSM-V
2. Prior Adult Inpatient Experience
3. Desire to work with Adults Who Have Been diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness
4. Experience and/or desire to work with diverse, under-served client populations.

Conditions of Employment
 
The successful candidate in this position must be willing and available to submit to the following conditions:

  • Successfully pass a criminal background check 
  • Possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license and be able to independently travel throughout the Denver metro area using personal transportation or a state vehicle to attend court hearings
  • Pre-Employment Physical –TB Test 
  • Pre-employment Drug Testing & fingerprinting
  • Essential Services Designation- required to report without delay or interruption to provide essential or emergency services to ensure health, safety, and welfare
  • Special Qualifications-  must be a licensed Psychologist in CO

Comparative Analysis Process
 
The Assessment Process:
Colorado Revised Statutes require that state employees are hired and promoted through a comparative analysis. The comparative analysis for this position will include a review of your application material and your responses to any supplemental questions.
